General Requirements 

In order for a student to become a musician here at the Glendale Youth Symphony, they must be eligible based on these requirements:

  • The student must be at least 12 years old

  • The student must must be enrolled in a music program at their local school and/or

    be taking private lessons.

  • The student must have at least 3 years of instrument experience (special arrangements can be worked out.)


Audition Requirements

After registering, the student musician will schedule an appointment with Dr. Fernandez during audition week. The student must play 2 scales from the scale list below and the two excerpts listed for their instrument here.

Piccolo:

  • B♭ Major Scale (1 Octave)

  • F# Major Scale (2 Octaves)

  • C Major Scale (1 Octave)

  • D Major Scale (2 Octaves)

 

Flute:

  • B♭ Major Scale (2 Octaves)

Oboe:
